Description
Large Orthoceras Tear
Orthoceres was a squid like creature which has left behind beautifully structured imprints in stone.
Orthoceras was a cephalopod that first appeared approximately 500 millions years ago, and then became extinct approximately 385 million years ago. The name means “straight horn”, referring to its characteristic long, straight, conical shell. The preserved shell is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid.
