Small Belemnite Fossil
Locally sourced from the North Yorkshire seaside Town of whitby, Belemnites were animals that lived in the sea. They are now extinct. Their name is derived from belemnon (Greek) meaning a dart. A fossil belemnite is usually the guard, the back part of the shell, and this does look like a dart or bullet.
Small Belemnite Fossils. Around at the time of the Dinosaurs, Belemnites were cephalopods like octopuses, cuttlefish, squid and nautiloids.
Fun Fact: The belemnite is the state fossil of Delaware in the USA!
