Locally sourced from teh North Yorkshire seaside Town of whitby, Belemnites were animals that lived in the sea. They are now extinct. Their name is derived from belemnon (Greek) meaning a dart. A fossil belemnite is usually the guard, the back part of the shell, and this does look like a dart or bullet.

Around at the time of the Dinosaurs, Belemnites were cephalopods like octopuses, cuttlefish, squid and nautiloids.

Fun Fact: The belemnite is the state fossil of Delaware in the USA!
